Different thickness of slate, the usage is also exquisite!

June 02, 2022

The material of slate is more and more recognized and loved, and is gradually sought after by everyone. The common thickness of slate is 3mm, 4.5mm, 5.5mm,

6mm, 9mm, 12mm, 15mm, 18mm, 20mm, etc. The thinner the slate, the better? Different application spaces and scenarios have applicable thicknesses. How to

choose the thickness of the slate?

3mm thickness

Advantage /Advantage

The quality is relatively light, bringing a certain degree of light transmission, sterile, and anti-pollution. It is suitable for secondary decoration and wall installation,

without destroying the floor and wall of the room, without bringing construction waste, and it can be directly constructed.

Disadvantage /Shortcoming

If the thickness is too thin, it is very easy to bend and deform, and the overall force is not very strong. The 3mm slate is too thin, the requirements for the base of

the wall are too high, and the slate is brittle, once a large deviation occurs, it may cause the slate to crack.

Scope of application

At present, 3mm thick slate is mainly used for decorative panels, such as cabinet door panels, wardrobe door panels, door panels, refrigerators and other household

appliance door panels.

Such applications need to be compounded and reinforced with aluminum honeycomb, aluminum, wood, glass, fiber back mesh and other materials to achieve a

certain crack resistance and meet the needs of home space.

6mm thickness

Advantage /Advantage

Cost-effective combination of bending resistance and lightness. In addition to wall paving, it can also undergo secondary processing for dining tables,

coffee tables, desks, entrance cabinets, TV cabinets, cabinet panels, sideboards, bathroom cabinets, bay windows, wardrobes, etc., and can be used with

glass, wood, Composite use of stainless steel and other materials.

Disadvantage /Shortcoming

Compared with the 3mm thick rock slab, although its bending resistance has increased, it is still relatively easy to deform when under heavy pressure.

Therefore, it is still not recommended for use in parts that require force or load bearing.

Scope of application

The 6mm-thick slate can currently be used for wet sticking and dry hanging of indoor and outdoor walls and floors, various door panels, and composite board

countertops.

It is mainly used in floor paving and high-end home furnishing customization. Currently, it is commonly used in cabinet panels, wardrobe panels, entry door panels,

refrigerator panels, TV cabinet panels, etc.

In addition to the ground, you can also go up the wall and apply it to the background wall, retaining wall and other applications, not only the visual effect is extremely

shocking and exciting, but also greatly reduces the load-bearing load of the wall.

9mm&12mm thickness

Advantage /Advantage

The thickness is moderate, and it can be on the wall and the ground. Especially in the background boards produced by many tile manufacturers, this thickness is

the largest. The general tile specialty store claims that one piece can reach the top of this thickness. This thickness is not required for paving technology. Great

height, suitable for wet sticking and dry hanging, etc.

The bending resistance and bearing capacity are relatively good, and the deformation is relatively small, which is more suitable for the application of whole-house

slate furniture panels. It has the characteristics of easy cutting and processing, and can meet the application of various furniture in the home.

Disadvantage /Shortcoming

Compared with 3mm and 6mm, its lightness is slightly worse, and its weight is heavier, so it is no longer suitable for the surface layer of the door panel.

Scope of application

In addition to being applied to various countertops, it is also very suitable for home customization such as stair steps, bay windows, windowsills, etc.,

bringing a more beautiful overall home effect and a higher quality life experience.

≥15mm thickness

Advantage /Advantage

Rock slabs with a thickness of 15mm and above have the highest hardness, strength, weight and bending resistance. It is solid and has no fear of daily cutting and

scratching. It can directly process, cut and cook food on its surface. It is an ideal material for kitchen, bathroom, island and other home countertops.

It has stronger machinability and can withstand deep processing such as grooving, chamfering and edging, making slate more suitable for home customization needs.

Disadvantage /Shortcoming

The thickness is large and the weight is heavy, so it is not suitable for the surface layer of the door panel.

Scope of application

The exclusive thickness of the kitchen countertop can be done in one piece without hanging down.
